A model-specific comparison worksheet
A price cannot be meaningfully compared until the proposed product and installed scope are identified. Keep the specification alongside the estimate.
| Proposal field | Record for option A and option B |
|---|---|
| Door | Manufacturer, model, opening dimensions and section arrangement |
| Construction | Actual material, layers and selected insulation configuration |
| Exterior | Finish, window layout, glazing and decorative hardware |
| Mechanical system | Tracks, springs, rollers and mounting hardware supplied |
| Opener | Reused or replaced, exact equipment and included controls |
| Installation | Removal, disposal, sealing, cleanup and operating checks |
| Exclusions | Framing, electrical changes or other work not included |
| Aftercare | Written product/labor terms and the service contact |
Use "not specified" for a missing item. An empty field is a question to resolve, not permission to assume the more expensive proposal includes it. If a substitution is proposed, compare the changed model and scope again before approval.
Appearance and performance are separate specifications
A steel door with a wood-look finish is not the same material as a natural wood door. Likewise, an insulation rating needs to identify what was measured. Section R-value and whole-door thermal performance should not be compared as if they were identical numbers. Window choices can change the selected configuration, so keep them on the same proposal sheet.
The raised-panel installation in our Highlands Ranch photo was completed in January 2026. It shows one finished appearance, not a standardized package that automatically includes every product or feature in this guide. Confirm the model and availability of the option you are considering.
Before paying a deposit
Confirm the approved specification, lead-time expectations, payment arrangements and process for handling unexpected findings. Check applicable property appearance requirements before ordering. Ask who verifies dimensions and who approves a change if the existing framing or clearance does not suit the selected system.
Keep the signed-off proposal for comparison with the delivered equipment. Our garage door installation page explains the service; this worksheet helps you discuss the particular door, not predict a price from a photograph.
Two garage door estimates can have similar prices and very different scopes. Before ordering a replacement in Denver, ask each installer to identify the door configuration and the work included. A written specification makes the comparison useful and reduces surprises on installation day.
Identify the door you are ordering
The estimate should name the manufacturer and model, opening size, construction, finish, window layout and selected insulation option. Do not accept an unspecified 'insulated steel door' as equivalent to a documented configuration. Ask for the product sheet that corresponds to the exact proposal.
If the design changes the exterior appearance, check applicable HOA requirements before placing the order. Requirements vary by property; this is an approval question to resolve, not a claim that every Denver replacement needs the same process.
Separate equipment from installation work
Ask what is included for tracks, spring system, rollers, mounting hardware, perimeter seals and removal of the old door. If some existing equipment will remain, request an explanation of compatibility and condition. Ask whether disposal and cleanup are included rather than assuming they are.
Unusual clearance, damaged framing or electrical work can affect scope. Have exclusions written down and ask who handles work outside the door installer's proposal.
Confirm the opener decision
Keeping an existing opener is a separate assessment. Ask whether it suits the replacement door, how the connection will be made and which setup and safety checks will follow. A new door is not a reason to skip testing an older opener, and a more powerful opener is not a substitute for a correctly balanced door.
Agree on completion and warranty details
Confirm lead time, site access, appointment arrangements and what happens if additional damage is discovered. Ask which parts and labor warranties apply and how service is requested afterward. For a Denver-area garage used as the main entry, plan alternative access while the opening is unavailable.
Compare the same finished job across estimates. A lower quote that excludes necessary hardware or disposal may not be the lower installed cost.
Frequently asked question
Should I compare only the door price?
No. Compare the specified product, installation, removal, remaining equipment, testing and warranty coverage together.
