When to call
Recognize the condition.
- You are planning a new residential garage opening
- An existing door is being replaced
- Ceiling clearance or side space needs assessment
- You want to compare finish, windows and insulation options
Measure the opening and the space around it
Opening width and height are only part of the installation plan. Side room, headroom, backroom, ceiling obstructions and mounting surfaces can affect the track and opener arrangement. Final measurements should be checked before equipment is ordered.
Explain how the garage is used, including vehicle clearance, storage and whether it connects directly to living space. Photographs of the opening and ceiling are useful discussion aids. They do not establish that framing, electrical supply or mounting points are ready for installation.
Order a documented configuration
Compare the manufacturer's model, construction, finish, windows, insulation specification and hardware package. A written configuration avoids comparing different products under a generic 'new garage door' description. Ask what happens if a selected finish or component is unavailable.
If the exterior appearance changes, check requirements that apply to your property before placing the order. Do not assume every Denver metro home has the same HOA, permit or historic-district requirements. Confirm who is responsible for any approvals or work outside the door installation scope.
Plan the installation and handover
The proposal should distinguish the door, tracks, spring system, seals and opener work from opening repairs or electrical work. Confirm removal and disposal when an old door is present. Keep vehicles and stored items clear of the working area and arrange alternative entry while the opening is unavailable.
At handover, ask for the model information, operating instructions, maintenance guidance and written warranty terms. Door travel, balance and the opener's safety systems should be checked using the correct manufacturer procedures. Learn the normal controls before the equipment is put into daily use.

Installation: common questions
What should I clear before the appointment?
Confirm the working space with the installer. Keep vehicles, storage and people away from the opening, tracks and planned equipment area.
Is an opener included with a new door?
Only if the proposal specifies it. Ask whether installation includes a new opener, reconnecting an existing unit or door-only work.
How long does installation take?
Timing depends on the configuration, opening condition and work included. Confirm the appointment plan and expected completion with the installer.
