When to call
Recognize the condition.
- The door stops partway or moves unevenly
- New scraping, grinding or shaking
- A loose cable, damaged roller or visible spring gap
- The opener runs but the door does not move normally
Find the cause before choosing the repair
An opener fault, damaged roller and failed spring can all leave a door unable to move, but they need different repairs. Describe what happened before the failure, whether the door is open or closed and whether a vehicle is inside. A photo taken from a safe distance can help explain the condition; it does not replace an on-site inspection.
An inspection considers the sections, hinges, rollers, tracks, spring system, lift cables and opener attachment. Symptoms are evaluated together. For example, replacing an opener does not correct an unbalanced door, and moving a roller back into a track does not establish that the track and cable system are safe.
Repair the problem, not just the visible symptom
Ask the technician to separate the failed component from any resulting damage. A bent section can change the way a door travels; a cable issue may be linked to the spring system or drum. The recommendation should identify what can remain in service, what needs replacement and why.
Compare a repair with replacement when panels or attachment points are structurally damaged, compatible parts cannot be identified, or the proposed repair leaves unresolved problems. Cosmetic wear alone and structural damage are different questions. Neither a photo nor a door's age is enough to decide every case.
What to expect in a written estimate
Ask for the diagnosis, proposed parts and labor, any related work, removal charges where applicable and the final checks included. Confirm the service-call charge and appointment availability before booking. If more damage is discovered, discuss the revised scope before additional work is approved.
After mechanical work, the door's movement, balance and opener safety functions should be evaluated using the equipment manufacturer's procedures. Ask which parts and labor warranty applies to the specific repair, who handles a follow-up request and which conditions are excluded.

Repair: common questions
Should I keep testing a stuck door?
Stop if it is crooked, off track, has loose cables or shows a spring gap. Repeated operation can add damage. Keep clear of the opening and describe the condition when you call.
Can you quote from a photo?
A photo can help explain the issue, but measurements and a system inspection may be needed before a reliable repair scope is given.
